Like many first-time homeowners, I was pretty clueless when I started the process of buying a house. Not only did I need to educate myself, but I also needed to get my out-of-state father up to speed on the LA market. This was a real wild-card in the process: while I was so incredibly lucky to have my dad to help me with the down payment, he can be a little hard to deal with / think everyone is out to screw him in financial transactions. Let's just say he had a hard time wrapping his head around the price of real estate in the area, which didn't exactly make us the easiest of clients to work with. When I found my dream house, I honestly thought it was a lost cause given his point of reference. Enter Peter. Peter was beyond patient with both of us, spending hours on the phone with us, explaining the local market, how the home buying process is unique in LA vs. other areas in the country, and overall what to expect. Given that our deal was much smaller than most of the transactions he's involved in, I kinda couldn't believe how much time he spent with us and how much he cared that we were comfortable moving forward. When multiple offers came in on the house (5! and 2 cash!), he not only expertly negotiated on our behalf, fully explaining to us all of our options, but he helped us keep our emotions in check and act rationally. He was never pushy but did everything he could to make sure we understood what it would take to win the house. Throughout the disclosure/appraisal/inspection process, Peter was super responsive and literally seemed to know everything under the sun about the house. This was super helpful during the inspections - again, I was clueless about what to look for, but Peter was there the entire time pointing things out to me, giving me advice and tips, and asking the inspectors pointed questions. We were equally impressed by the different contractors he recommended for inspections: they were all thorough, easy to understand, and super pro. Whenever there was a bump in the road - with the mortgage lenders, the appraisers, the sellers, etc. - Peter was a fierce advocate on my behalf. He was always ON IT, usually before I even knew there was an issue. As someone who hates conflict and is susceptible to caving under pressure - this was instrumental in making sure I got the best deal possible. Overall, we feel incredibly indebted to Peter and his team. We love our house so much and basically would have never gotten it if it wasn't for Peter's expertise and caring. He's No.1 in my book - I trust him more than I trust my hairdresser. (And that says a lot). While I can't imagine leaving this house right now, when the time comes, we'll most certainly work with Peter again.

We cannot recommend Tregg Rustad highly enough. He has all the qualities you would look for in a real estate agent. He is intelligent, responsive, patient, calm, knowledgeable, experienced and easy to work with. We initially called Tregg because he was recommended to us by two friends he represented in the purchase of their respective homes. Both friends had nothing but great things to say about him. One friend noted that he advised her to get specific inspections during escrow based on the year the house was built and the area it was located in, which ultimately saved her money in repairs. The other friend found herself in a bidding war and Tregg advised her to offer less than she was willing to offer and she got the house. This all sounded good to us so we called Tregg and were not disappointed. When we met with Tregg we wanted to purchase a house in a particular neighborhood that was out of our price range. He showed us the current market data in that neighborhood and explained that we could try to find something that would work but that it would be difficult given the prices. He also showed us a number of other good neighborhoods to consider. Ultimately, we decided to make an offer on a house in one of the other neighborhoods. It was a great house and Tregg had visited many homes with us in that particular neighborhood. However, when the time came to put the deposit down, we decided we really did not want to live in that neighborhood after all. My husband and I both called Tregg and he patiently talked to us at length about our issues with the area and ultimately advised us not to move forward if our hearts were not in it. Although Tregg had accompanied us to several houses in that area and taken the time to write an offer on our behalf, he gave no indication that he was bothered in the least and continued to help us search. Ultimately, we did find a house in the neighborhood we wanted and Tregg fought to get us the best price we could possibly get and to get credits for issues we discovered during the inspection period. He was very skilled at negotiating while maintaining a good relationship with the selling agent. In addition, he had a wealth of knowledge about what inspections to get and advised us to do inspections we might not otherwise have done. I asked him many questions during escrow about the house, permits, zoning, title and the escrow process generally and found him to be very knowledgeable in all respects. He returned phone calls promptly and was on top of everything every step of the way. He made sure all parties (the sellers, the sellers’ agent, the escrow officer, the title officer, the inspectors, and the lender) were getting the job done in an efficient and timely manner. In addition, my husband referred Tregg to another party to represent that party in the sale of their family home and he was equally great as a listing agent. He sold the home quickly, efficiently and at a great price. In summary, if you are looking to buy or sell a home, call Tregg!

I planned to sell my condo in Westwood, Los Angeles, CA. I had never sold a house before, so I met and interviewed 3 real estate agents/groups of agents who have experience selling in the Westwood area. An example of truly remarkable service occurred in one of our LA offices that moved me to write you in the hopes that others may be influenced by one agent’s focus on serving his customer. Our Beverly Hills East office received a $460,000 cashier’s check as a down payment on a $4.6 million foreclosure property with multiple offers. When the agent went to the office the check could not be located. Now we have clients at risk of missing an opportunity to purchase the home of their dreams and we were unable to locate nearly half a million dollars of their funds. Step in Peter Maurice, our associate. Peter acted in his client’s best interest, and went to work solving the problem. With the deadline looming, there was no time to place a stop payment and get a replacement check reissued, in fact the bank’s procedures require a 30 day waiting period before they would reissue a replacement check. To make matters worse, it was the day before the Thanksgiving holiday. Peter cleared his investment account and drew on his home equity line to enable him to deliver the cashier’s check to the bank. He won the bid for his clients and they have now closed on the property. The client’s bank provided a replacement check in Peter’s name and Peter has been made whole, and order has been restored! This brief outline does not do justice to the anxiety caused by this dilemma, nor the calm, cool and heroic response that Peter showed. Peter’s unflinching focus in providing truly remarkable service makes us all extremely proud, it is an honor to be associated with exceptional agents such as Peter.

Tregg Rustad is the epitome of a great real estate agent. After working with another agent for one year we looked long and hard for a new agent that was professional, smart, patient, honest, hard-working, a good negotiator and most importantly– trustworthy. Tregg came highly recommended by a close friend of ours. After meeting with Tregg for the first time, we knew he was going to be the right agent for us. We were right, after a little over eight months we bought a home. We are having a housewarming party next week and Tregg was the first person on the guest list. Real estate agents make money if you buy or sell your home. They don’t make money showing you homes, doing research, calling agents, calling mortgage brokers, scheduling inspectors, etc. Nevertheless, Tregg did all of this and more. He never pressured us to buy. In fact, it was not rare for Tregg to talk us out of a place, because of he just didn’t think it was right for us. We were not easy clients! There were about six people involved in our decision to buy a home. Tregg spoke to all six people regularly, even when he was on vacation. Moreover, we were not the most decisive clients. We were in escrow on multiple homes which we backed out of before we finally settled on the right home. Once we finally found the right place, thanks to Tregg, our escrow period moved very smoothly. However, in the eleventh hour, there was a huge issue (which had nothing to do with Tregg). At this point, Tregg went from great agent to an amazing agent. This “issue” demanded endless phone calls, letters, inspections, meetings, etc. to get the sale of the home to close on time (or at all for that matter). Tregg made the sale happen and he made it happen on time! We live in the Southbay which is not even Tregg’s area of expertise (we originally planned on buying in West LA); nevertheless, we would never even think of using another agent when we sell our current home or buy our next home. In looking for homes for just about two years we met a lot of real estate agents. Many of them are totally unprofessional shady characters! Tregg is a breath of fresh air and truly fantastic at his job. And, he CARES about YOU and YOUR INTERESTS! Oh, by the way, he is a total closet contractor and interior decorator. Thus, if you want ideas about remodeling, furnishing, painting, etc. Tregg is your guy!
